Title: Universal and locally situated
meanings - a proposal to rethink teacher education
Contributer/s: Marianne Öberg Tuleus
Abstract
: Abstract: In this paper I inquire into
possible meanings of the concepts of mediation, zone of proximal development
and concept learning. My point of departure is Lev Vygotsky's cultural
historical theory, which I relate to its main receptions. I argue that
depending on what meanings are infused in the concepts, different implications
for teacher education will emerge. My conclusion is that by considering
learning and teaching as contextual activities, we are able to rethink teacher
education in terms of universal and locally situated meanings.
